| Police Stop sign thieves |

St. Cloud, Minn. (KNSI) -
St. Cloud Police discovered some stolen property after stopping a couple would-be stop-sign thieves.
Police had a stepped up presence in the area around St. Cloud State University on Saturday night.
During their patrols, they came across two men who they say were trying to steal a stop sign.
That bust led them to recover a rug that recently went missing from the University's College of Education.
Police issued 16 other citations during the six hour special patrol including one DWI. |

St. Cloud, Minn. (KNSI) - A St. Cloud man is in jail after police say he sexually assaulted an 18 year old St. Cloud woman.
21 year old Aaron Wentworth is in Benton County jail and faces 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
The assault happened in the 100 block of Columbia Ave. Northeast.
The woman was treated at St. Cloud hospital for what police say are minor injuries. |

| Playground ready to go |

Sartell, Minn. (KNSI) - Pine Meadow Elementary's playground will be ready when students return to school tomorrow.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place tomorrow at 2:00 PM at the Pine Meadow Playground.
The equipment will be available and safe to play on for the first day of school for the students of Pine Meadow Elementary.
The playground was replaced using insurance money after it was destroyed by an arsonist's fire on July 5th.

| Car Crash leads to arrest |

St. Cloud, Minn. (KNSI) -
Running a stop sign lands a Waite Park man in Jail.
Police say 26 year old John Dombrovsky was driving a Jeep southbound on Westwood Parkway when he ran the stop sign at county road 134 and crashed into a 2008 Buick.
The 60 year old driver of that car was taken to St. Cloud hospital. Their condition is unknown.
The crash happened Saturday at about 5:20 p.m.
Dombrovsky was arrested for criminal vehicular operation, 2nd degree DWI, driving after revocation and a stop sign violation.
He's in Stearns County Jail. |

| Foley search warrant yields results |

Foley, Minn. (KNSI) -
Guns, drugs and a stolen riding lawn mower were found at a Foley residence yesterday morning after authorities executed a search warrant at the house.
The Central Minnesota Drug and Gang Task Force was investigating what they say is a marijuana growing operation at the house which is owned by Daniel Stauffenecker.
Police found 21 large marijuana plants, methamphetamine and several guns.
Police also found a riding lawn mower that went missing from a neighbor's home in July.
So, they got an additional search warrant to look for more stolen property and found 15 items they believe were stolen.
Police are trying to track down the owners of those items.
48 year old Dale Kampa, who lives at the house was arrested after police say he was in possession of a controlled substance. He faces 5th degree drug possession charges.
The investigation continues and more arrests are expected. |

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie reminded Minnesota voters serving in the military and those who will be overseas on Election Day to apply now for their absentee ballots.
Doing so ensures that they can begin receiving their ballots on Sept. 17, the date general election ballots become available.
Minnesota law allows military personnel and voters overseas the option of receiving their ballots electronically but requires the voters to return their ballots by mail. |

| Missing Police Dog |

Champlin, Minn. (KNSI) -
The Anoka County Sheriff's Department is missing one of its narcotics dogs.
The 4-year-old black lab ``Sherman'' disappeared Thursday in Champlin.
Deputies say the dog is trained only to detect drugs and won't attack when approached.
Sherman is wearing a choke chain collar. |

St. Cloud, Minn (KNSI) -
St. Cloud State University’s campus television station, UTVS was nominated for five Regional Emmys.
The Emmy Awards ceremony is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Pantages Theater in downtown Minneapolis.
UTVS is carried locally by Charter Communications on channel 21.
UTVS is a student organization at St. Cloud State and one of three student media organizations on campus.
Students are given the opportunity to work in a professional environment, with professional equipment, to prepare them for the professional market. |

Free beer.
Anna Marie's Alliance is holding a benefit from 4-7 today at McCann's Food and Brew on the corner of 3rd Street North and 33rd Ave North in St. Cloud.
There will also be free food at the event. There is not a donation requirement, but the more you can give, the better.
Anna Marie's Alliance provides women and their children the tools they need to escape domestic abuse.

The light and sound show put on by Mother Nature last night yielded some impressive numbers.
Sartell saw winds gust to 62 mph.
The St. Cloud airport saw 1.84 inches of rain in 4 hours, with 1.56 inches falling at SCSU.
St. Cloud State Meteorologist Bob Weisman says there was a considerable amount of pea-sized hail in our area.
Sartell and Foley saw golf ball sized hail.
Today will be cool and windy with a chance for some more showers and storms. |

A St. Cloud woman had her purse and cell phone stolen at gunpoint late Tuesday.
The 23 year old woman tells St. Cloud police that as she was walking home near the 500 block of 7th Ave. South, a man demanded her purse and cell phone.
He threatened to hurt her and showed her a silver revolver, so she gave up her belongings.
The man then ran away on foot, headed east on 5th Street South.
The man who robbed and threatened the woman is described as being black, in his mid-twenties, six foot three, and over 200 pounds.

Doctors have told Minnesota Twins slugger Justin Morneau to remain at home until Friday as he continues to
work his way back from a concussion nearly two months ago.
Morneau had been taking swings at Target Field and watching some home games from the dugout in the last few weeks.
Manager Ron Gardenhire says Morneau was told to stay at home during this week's series against Detroit.
Gardenhire says Morneau is doing cardio work and other exercises and is following doctors' orders.
The former AL MVP has not played since he was injured on July 8 in Toronto.
He has experienced symptoms from the concussion ever since. |

| Man threatens girl with knife |

A St. Cloud man is in jail after threatening his 10 year old sister with a knife.
Police were called to the 700 block of Wilson Avenue Southeast at about 5:40 yesterday afternoon because of an assault.
They arrested 21 year old Cory Adam Grabuski for the assault.
Police say Grabuski also smashed a TV with a hammer after making the threats.
He is in Sherburne County jail facing second degree assault, domestic assault and criminal damage to property charges.
His sister was not physically harmed. |

| A Sure Sign of Fall |

You can catch the shimmering wave of autumn color as it ripples across Minnesota this fall.
As they have for the past several years, the DNR will provide weekly updates on the progression of color in the state, beginning this week.
The fall color reports will be updated by noon every Thursday beginning Sept. 2, and can be seen on the DNR's website at mndnr.gov.
The reports will include percent of color change, peak color projections, flowers and grasses in bloom, and the mix of colors you can expect to see. |

A new poll by Minnesota Public Radio and
the Humphrey Institute shows the governor's race is tight for the
two main party candidates.
Democrat Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer are even with 34
percent support in the telephone survey of 750 likely Minnesota
voters. Independence Party candidate Tom Horner garnered 13 percent
support from likely voters.
With about two months before the general election, many
Minnesotans are still undecided on who should replace Republican
Gov. Tim Pawlenty. Nearly 20 percent of those polled haven't
decided or don't want to say who they're supporting.
Pollsters interviewed the likely voters last Wednesday through
Sunday. The poll has a margin of error of 5.3 percentage points. |

| Pawlenty Tries to Limit Healthcare Overhaul |

Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he plans to limit Minnesota's participation in the federal health care overhaul as much as possible.
Pawlenty said Tuesday he would issue executive orders to that effect later in the day.
The governor says that's why he turned down applying for an $850,000 sex education grant.
But Pawlenty says his order will be much broader than that grant.
Pawlenty called the federal health care overhaul misguided.
He says his office has just finished reviewing the state funding opportunities related to the bill.
Though Pawlenty wouldn't sign off on the sex education grant money, he did OK applying for federal money for abstinence-only education. |

Police say two people tried to steal over $1200 worth of goods from JC Penney at Crossroads Center.
Police got the call at about 6:30 last night.
Store loss prevention associates told police that one person got away, but they had 19 year old Kathleen Baupre of Manohmen in custody.
She was arrested and is in Stearns County Jail facing felony theft and 5th degree assault charges.
The assualt charge was filed because police found out that she smacked the loss prevention officer in the face while she tried to escape.
Officers are still trying to find the other suspect. |

| Truck Delivers Bruises |

A truck delivered some bumps and bruises to a 22 year old St. Cloud man last night at about 6:30.
The man was riding his bicycle west on 7th Street South near 9th Avenue when he ran into the side of a delivery truck driven by a 37 year old Edina man.
He fell onto the road and was then run over by the truck.
Police weren't called until the injured man showed up at St. Cloud Hospital two hours after the accident.
His injuries were not life threatening
Neither the cyclist nor the truck driver were ticketed. |

Minnesota State Fair visitors always run into politicians.
Now they can make sure they're ready to vote in November.
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie's fair booth is offering to help fairgoers look up their voter registration online.
If they're not registered, they can fill out the paperwork at the fair.
It's not necessary to visit the St. Paul fairgrounds to get the information.

Four hundred immigrants from more than 50 countries are being sworn in as U.S. citizens at ceremonies in St. Paul today.
U.S. District Judge John Tunheim presided over 10 a.m. ceremony at Landmark Center, and Judge Donovan Frank will
oversee a 2 p.m. ceremony. Both are organized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Bloomington.
Naturalization is the legal process that lets foreign citizens achieve U.S. citizenship by fulfilling requirements set by Congress.
After naturalization, immigrants enjoy most of the same benefits, rights and responsibilities conferred by the Constitution
to native-born citizens.
More than 9,000 immigrants were naturalized in Minnesota during fiscal year 2009. |
